Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9 based out of Effingham has announced that Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols will be conducted in Lawrence and surrounding counties in August and September.
The patrols will allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations, especially between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at night and particularly during those hours. Alcohol and drug impairment is estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in the state of Illinois.
Other counties to be included in the patrols are Richland, Crawford, Effingham, Wayne and White.
