Friday morning WTCA received three phone calls and a walk-in listener who said the Plymouth Hospital was closing the OB Department at the Hospital. Earlier in the week we had heard that the OB/GYN medical office was also closing.
After sending a couple of emails, WTCA received a comment from the Saint Joseph Health System. The statement says the New Beginnings Birthplace in the hospital will close on April 30th and Marshall County OB/GYN will close their office on Friday, March 31st.
The statemen follows:
At Saint Joseph Health System we are committed to fulfilling our mission to serve as a compassionate and transforming healing presence in our communities. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have yet to successfully attract an obstetrician to serve the needs of our patients in Marshall County.
As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close the Plymouth Medical Center New Beginnings Birthplace for the foreseeable future on April 30, 2023. We will continue to perform deliveries at the Mishawaka Medical Center Family Birthplace.
The Marshall County Obstetrics/Gynecology office will also close on March 31, 2023. Saint Joseph Health System has multiple health care professionals specializing in primary care and family medicine who will continue to provide excellent prenatal and gynecological care in Marshall County.
