The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department released details on the train vs semi accident that happened on Monday, November 18th.
The Marshall County Central Dispatch Center received a call about the accident on Linden Road south of State Road 10 at 10:17 a.m. The initial report said the semi was unoccupied.
The driver, 68-year-old Kenneth Emling, told Deputy Brown he was traveling south on Linden Road to make a delivery around the corner, and his trailer got hung up on the tracks. Emling said he attempted to air the truck and trailer up as high as possible to clear the tracks but was unsuccessful.
He called the emergency number on the crossing arms and reported that the semi was stuck. Moments later, Emling said he heard a train horn, and he ran south away from the semi before it was struck by the train. No injuries were reported. The semi and trailer were totaled and according to the railroad, the engine is also totaled.
