Sheriff Hassel releases November Jail and Department report

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel released the November Jail and Department report detailing the top ten reasons individuals were booked into the Marshall County Jail.

Operator never license topped the November list with 28 arrests, and operating while intoxicated was second on the list with 20 arrests. Possession of marijuana was third, with 15 individuals being booked into the county jail. Fourth was failure to appear, with 14 bookings, and driving while suspended rounded out the top five with 13 arrests. Six through 10 on the list were possession of paraphernalia with 13 bookings; domestic battery had seven arrests; there were six theft arrests; violation of home detention had five arrests; and possession of cocaine or a narcotic rounded out the top ten with four arrests.

One hundred fifty individuals were booked into the Marshall County Jail in November. Arrests by departments were one for Argos Police and one for Culver Police, three by the DNR, four bookings each for Bremen Police and Community Corrections, six by Bourbon Police Officers, and 13 by Indiana State Police troopers. Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made 51 arrests last month, and deputies with the Sheriff’s Department had 67 arrests in November.

The jail count day was Dec. 11, and there were 125 inmates in the jail, two serving time for misdemeanor charges and 40 serving time for felony charges. 83 inmates were held as pre-trial, 10 were awaiting arraignment, and one was being held for another agency. There were 98 males in the county jail and 27 females.

The monthly average population in the Marshall County Jail for November 2024 was 125. Six months earlier, in May, the average population was 132, and one year ago, it was 146.

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 116 accidents in November. One hundred thirteen were property damage accidents and three involved personal injuries. County officers initiated 67 case reports, wrote 201 citations or warnings, and conducted 18 security checks. There are a total of 1,262 active warrants awaiting delivery.

The Marshall County Central Dispatch Center answered 4,009 calls in November. Of that, 1,148 were 911 calls, and 99.48% were answered in 10 seconds or less. The Marshall County Dispatch Center also received 1,217 service calls last month.
