Indiana State University has announced the appointment of J.D. Lux as its new General Counsel.
A press release issued by Indiana State University describes Lux as seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in higher education law and a thorough understanding of Indiana’s legal and educational landscape. He is well-prepared to help advance the university’s mission and strategic goals.
Lux has a distinguished legal career in both public service and private law practice spanning over 30 years. Most recently, he served as University Counsel at Auburn University, providing comprehensive legal guidance on a broad range of higher education matters. Before that, he dedicated more than a decade as legal counsel to Ivy Tech Community College, where he held key roles such as College Counsel, Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and Counsel to the Ivy Tech Foundation. His leadership has been crucial in navigating complex legal challenges while promoting institutional growth and compliance.
“J.D. is an outstanding addition to our leadership team,” stated Indiana State University President Mike Godard. “His extensive knowledge of higher education law and strong connections to Indiana’s educational and legal communities uniquely equip him to support and enhance our mission. We are confident he can help guide Indiana State with integrity, innovation, and strategic insight.”
Lux expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Sycamore family, stating, “Indiana State University has a rich tradition of excellence in education and service to the community. I am honored to be part of an institution dedicated to empowering students and advancing the region. I look forward to collaborating with university leadership to support its vision and priorities.”
Lux succeeds Joyce Thompson-Mills, who has served as Executive Director of Legal Services since 2022. Indiana State University is deeply grateful to Thompson-Mills for her years of service and dedication.
