The Shelbyville Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department combined to arrest a known habitual traffic violator Wednesday.
Shelbyville police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Kendall Ervine, age 52 of Shelbyville. Officers were familiar with Ervine and knew he did not possess a valid driver’s license.
When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Ervine refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began.
The pursuit traveled through the city. During pursuit, Ervine intentionally struck a Shelbyville Police Department patrol vehicle with his vehicle.

The pursuit continued outside city limits where multiple attempts were made to safely bring the pursuit to an end. Ervine drove off the roadway in an attempt to avoid tire deflation devices and struck a fence.
Ervine continued attempting to flee and struck a Shelby County Sheriff’s Department patrol vehicle before driving into a ditch, where his vehicle became disabled.
Officers were then able to take Ervine into custody without further incident. No officers, deputies or Ervine were injured during the incident.
Ervine was transported to MHP Medical Center for evaluation and will be remanded into the custody of the Shelby County Jail. He faces multiple criminal charges related to the incident.
Additional information may be released as it becomes available.
