Shelbyville High School has announced Graduation Day for the Class of 2025 has been changed from June 7 to May 23.
With seniors completing their classwork on May 16, commencement was scheduled to follow three weeks later. Now, graduation will take place on May 23, a Friday night, the final scheduled day of classes for the 2024-2025 school year.
The student leadership council and student council at Shelbyville High School were polled earlier this school year about the change to the commencement date and were in favor of it.
The earlier graduation day also allows foreign exchange students to take part in the ceremony that will be held inside William L. Garrett Gymnasium. In years past, exchange students would return home at the end of May and miss the June commencement.
In addition, the Top Ten Banquet for seniors will be moved to an as-yet-to-determined date in February.
