The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is alerting the public of another scam that uses phone calls, texts, and emails to request money for missed jury duty or outstanding warrants.
This scam right now is very prevalent in Marion County according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office believes that it is just a matter of time before Shelby County will be experiencing the same threat.
Please remember that police will never ask for payments over the phone through any type of app. They also will not ask you to pay us on Zelle, CashApp, Venmo, Gift Cards of any type, Bitcoin, any third-party payment, or any other payment method.
Never give any of your banking information over the phone to anyone pretending to be a deputy.
