A West Lafayette man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday.
Fulton County 911 received a report just before 10:30 a.m. regarding the accident with injuries that occurred in the 7000 block S SR 25. Initial investigation shows that Gordon Heeter, 44, of West Lafayette was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma northbound on State Road 25 and James Rush, 59, of Logansport was driving a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan also northbound on State Road 25 behind Heeter. Heeter was actively slowing down while entering the Town of Fulton, for an unknown reason Rush did not slow down striking the rear end of the Tacoma which forced the truck into a tree.
Heeter was transported from the scene via medical helicopter. Rush refused medical attention at the scene.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belt at the time of the accident. The Fulton County Sheriff's Office notes that speed is believed to be a contributing factor to this accident. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Any questions or information regarding this incident can be directed to 574-223-2819.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Liberty Township Fire, Parkview EMS, Samaritan Medical Transport, and the Rochester City Police Department.
