Wednesday, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution, led by U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), recognizing the 120th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS), one of the oldest and largest youth mentoring organizations in the United States.
The resolution commends BBBS for its successful work mentoring young Americans and strengthening thousands of communities. The resolution also supports the continuation and expansion of BBBS programs.
“Years ago, I had the opportunity to be a mentor through a Big Brother Big Sisters program. The experience helped me understand the incredible impact that connection can have on both the Big Brother and the Little Brother,” said Senator Young. “I’m glad to lead this resolution honoring the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and I am committed to ensuring more young people are able to benefit from its life-changing programs.”
“Big Brothers Big Sisters plays an important role in helping children in New Hampshire and across the country reach their full potential,” said Senator Hassan. “As the organization marks its 120th anniversary, I am grateful for the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters and all of its volunteer mentors who help our children thrive.”
“For 120 years, our evidence-based approach has demonstrated that positive mentorship in the lives of young people has changed lives and communities for the better,” said BBBS of America President and CEO Artis Stevens. “We thank Senators Young, Hassan and all of our co-sponsors for their leadership on this resolution which recognizes this milestone celebration and our impact on the youth we serve. We look forward to our continued work together with Congress to directly contribute to empowering young people across the country.”
“We’re grateful for the leadership of Senators Young and Hassan in sponsoring this bipartisan resolution. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proud to serve thousands of young people and families thanks to thousands of volunteer mentors throughout the state of Indiana. Our program creates life-changing mentoring relationships that are good for kids, good for our economy, and good for society. We are honored by the support of our state’s Congressional delegation in recognizing the impact of 120 years of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring relationships in our country,” said BBBS of Central Indiana CEO Darcey Palmer-Shultz.
“We’re grateful for the leadership of Senators Young and Hassan in sponsoring this bipartisan resolution honoring the 120th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters. We are proud to serve thousands of young people and families throughout New Hampshire thanks to our dedicated, supportive volunteer mentors. Our multiple programs create life-changing mentoring relationships for youth that are a cost effective prevention solution to the emotional, social, physical, educational, and economic challenges that face all of our communities,” said BBBS of New Hampshire CEO Stacy Kramer.
