This response has been posted following the passing on Tuesday of Scott Spahr, 57, the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Shelby County.
In Loving Memory of Scott Spahr,
This morning, we lost someone incredibly important to us. Our CEO, Scott Spahr, passed away early today. Scott wasn’t just our CEO, he was a wounded Army veteran, a husband, father, brother, coach, leader, and friend. Our whole Boys & Girls Club family is
heartbroken.
In 2020, Scott stepped into the role of CEO after serving as the Unit Director at our Morristown Club. He was here through some of our hardest times and helped build us into the strongest we’ve ever been, not from behind a desk, but by showing up. He walked through our Clubs, said hello, jumped into games, and made people feel seen. He always kept focus on what mattered most: the kids. He challenged us to do better, but he always had our backs.
Today hurts. It doesn’t feel real. But one thing is already clear: Scott left a mark that won’t fade. The way he led, the way he treated people, the way he believed in this mission, that’s not going anywhere.
We’ll share more soon. For now, please keep Scott’s family in your thoughts. We’re grieving with them, and we’re thankful for every moment we had with him.
Rest easy, Scott. You gave us everything you had.
We’ll carry this forward, just like you taught us to.
