On September 10, a fire broke out in downtown Rushville, severely damaging the buildings that housed the Corner Restaurant and Finishing Touch. In the following days, two structural engineers concluded the buildings were unsafe and posed a threat to public safety, requiring demolition.
State Road 3 was closed since the fire. Demolition crews began to work quickly at the site following the on-site investigation by the state fire marshal. Demolition progress allowed SR 3 to be re-opened on the evening of September 13. Four days later, the site was secured and East 3rd Street was also reopened to the public.
The investigation into the cause remains under investigation. No further information is expected until the official report from the state fire marshal is released.
