After nearly 124 years serving the community Rochester Greenhouse, 412 W 11th St, announced they will be closing their business this week.
The announcement came from a Facebook post by owner Abby Warpenburg on Sunday. The closing comes after challenges involving continued rising costs and challenges finding and keeping qualified staff. Warpenburg said the closing has been a difficult choice she wished she never had to make.
“Finding a qualified floral designer has been one of the greatest challenges I’ve ever faced. For many years, we were blessed with two incredibly talented designers who poured their hearts into this business. Since their retirement, replacing that level of skill and passion has been nearly impossible. Floral design is a true craft, and there simply aren’t many trained designers available anymore,“ explained Warpenburg.
The last day to order fresh flowers from Rochester Greenhouse will be Friday, Jan. 9. Warpenburg also plans on eventually having a 'going out of business sale’ at a later date that’s not yet been determined. She thanked the community for trusting, supporting, and allowing Rochester Greenhouse to be part of the community for so many years.
“Rochester Greenhouse has been a part of this community since 1902. For more than a century, we have been honored to walk alongside you through life’s most meaningful moments. We were there to welcome new babies, celebrate birthdays and milestones, say “I’m thinking of you,” and, in times of sorrow, offer comfort when words simply weren’t enough. Through flowers, we were able to hold space for joy, love, and grief - and that has been a true privilege.“ Warpenburg shared.
