Redevelopment Commission updated on Water Street Townhouses and Centennial Crossing expansion

The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission held its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.

Members present at the meeting were administered the annual oath of office, including Mike Miley, Lana Ball, Kara Steel, and Craig Hopple. Plymouth School Board representative Robin Cupka attended the meeting but was not administered the oath, as she is not a voting member of the Redevelopment Commission. Nate Davis was absent from the meeting.

The commission voted to retain its current officers: Mike Miley as president, Craig Hopple as vice-president, and Lana Ball as secretary.

City Attorney Jeff Houin informed commission members that Construction Management & Design, the developers of Centennial Crossing, are investigating another phase of the residential development off Plymouth-Goshen Trail. The developers are exploring an eastward expansion by acquiring property owned by the House of Prayer and building along U.S. 30 with additional access to Plymouth-Goshen Trail east of the church.

Houin said the project is still in early stages, approximately 18 to 24 months from construction. He noted that the Redevelopment Commission will be working with Baker Tilly and Ice Miller to arrange special financing for the developer to use on the project.

Commission members also received an update on the Water Street Townhouses, learning that inclement weather has caused delays in completion.

Attorney Houin said developer Kevin Berger provided details on remaining work. Exterior tasks yet to be completed include applying the topcoat of asphalt to the parking lot, landscaping, a solar rooftop installation, and installing railings and canopies, which need improved weather conditions.

Interior work is progressing. Drywall installation is complete, and painting is underway. Flooring and electrical device installation are also in progress, with cabinet installation scheduled to begin next week. Plumbing fixtures will be installed following cabinet completion, and interior doors are expected to arrive on site next week.

Berger initially anticipated occupancy by the end of January. However, with contractors still actively working, the occupancy date has been pushed back by an undetermined amount of time.
