As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the American Red Cross is calling on community members to schedule blood donation appointments now to help keep local medical centers stocked and ready to respond to emergencies.

With millions of Americans expected to take to the roads and enjoy outdoor activities such as boating, swimming, and camping over the holiday weekend, the risk of traumatic accidents increases significantly. Having blood and platelets readily available on hospital shelves is critical to meeting the demand when patients experience critical injuries and massive bleeding. The Red Cross is highlighting this need during Trauma Awareness Month, asking donors of all blood types to give now.

In Marshall County, the next opportunity to donate is on Wednesday, May 27th, at St. Isidore Hall at 803 West Bike Street in Bremen, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Donors who give by May 31st will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel, while supplies last.

To schedule a blood donation appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
