A farmer doing work inside a grain bin was rescued Wednesday night after he became trapped inside the bin, according to local emergency officials.
The Greencastle Fire Department responded to the Belle Union area to assist the Jefferson Township Fire Department and several other agencies with the rescue
Greencastle Fire Captain Brian Poole told The Putnam County Post the individual got trapped waist deep in the grain and was unable to self extricate himself, at which point a call to 911 was made.
"Right after Jefferson Twp was dispatched they called for our aerial truck, and we have a grain tube that we responded with as well. We also called for Cloverdale due to them having a grain tube. Also while enroute, I requested the Hendricks County Task force that specializes in rope rescue and confined space as a grain bin is technically a confined space," said Poole, who added it was "incredibly vital" to have all those forces on the scene.
According to Poole, calls such as the man trapped in the grain bin require a lot of manpower.
"Those types of rescues require a lot of manpower, so we could not have accomplished such a successful outcome without all the mutual aid support we had from everyone," Poole said.
In addition to fire units, Putnam County EMS was on the scene, as was the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
"Putnam County Dispatch also did a great job with contacting and getting us the resources that we needed. It was a great team effort with a successful outcome," Poole said.
The individual was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
