The City of Shelbyville Board of Public Works and Safety approved a road closure on McKay Road that will begin Monday and last as long as two weeks.
A portion of McKay Road going east from the roundabout at Miller St. will be closed for concrete replacement down to S. West St.
“It’s the roughest section of road we have in town,” said Shelbyville Street Department Commissioner Shane Peters.
The south side of McKay Road will be replaced first with the north side to follow.
The stretch of road has not had major upgrades since 1977.
In other board business:
- Following the results of a traffic study, the board approved the placement of a stop sign at Jefferson St. and 4th Street.
- Mayor Scott Furgeson publicly thanked the city employees that assisted with the Government Day lunch Friday in downtown Shelbyville. A total of 400 hot dogs were handed out in just over an hour. The mayor added the goal is to purchase 600 hot dogs to distribute during the 2027 event.
