Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made two arrests Wednesday morning.
At 1:39 in the morning, Officer Witkowski conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling east on U.S. 30. The driver, 36-year-old Andrew W. Ward of South Bend, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Also found inside the vehicle was a small bag containing trace amounts of heroin.
Andrew Ward was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail. He was booked in at 3:05 a.m. for possession of a narcotic drug and driving while suspended with a prior within 10 years. Ward’s cash bond was posted at 5 a.m., and he was released on bond.
About 10 minutes before 8 a.m. Wednesday, Corporal McIntyre stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at Bayless and Lemler Streets. During the investigation, it was determined that 44-year-old Mario Galeano Mejia of Plymouth had never received a driver's license. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury, at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
