A Plymouth man faces an operating while intoxicated charge after officers investigating a possible domestic altercation in Kosciusko County located him at a local motel and discovered he was impaired.
Plymouth Police were dispatched to the Economy Inn, 2535 North Michigan Street, at approximately 11:56 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, to locate an individual who had allegedly been involved in a domestic altercation in Kosciusko County.
Officers were searching for a suspect who was believed to be traveling in a Nissan Pathfinder. While at the Economy Inn, officers observed a Nissan Pathfinder pulling into the property and parking.
Officers made contact with the driver and confirmed he was the individual sought in connection with the Kosciusko County incident.
During their conversation with the driver, identified as Cesar Rangel Chavez, 35, of Plymouth, officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol.
Chavez was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The status of potential charges related to the original Kosciusko County domestic altercation investigation was not disclosed in the Plymouth Police report.
The case demonstrates cooperation between law enforcement agencies across county lines. Kosciusko County is located directly east of Marshall County.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges mentioned are allegations, and defendants have the right to legal representation and a trial.
