A Plymouth man was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges including operating a vehicle while intoxicated by a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia, following a traffic stop initiated due to an equipment violation.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a Plymouth police officer observed a pickup truck traveling on Harrison Street without functional taillights. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Harrison and Plum Streets.

During the stop, the officer observed marijuana paraphernalia in plain view within the vehicle. A subsequent search of the truck revealed that the driver, identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Leach of Plymouth, was in possession of both marijuana and additional paraphernalia.

Further investigation at the scene led officers to determine that Leach was operating the vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marshall County Jail.

Leach was lodged on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
