A 44-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon after Marshall County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver who had just left a business on Lincoln Highway.
At approximately 3:37 p.m. on May 17th, Marshall County Dispatch broadcast a report that an apparently intoxicated male had just left David's Courage, located at 10924 Lincoln Highway, and was last seen traveling northbound on King Road.
Marshall County officers located the vehicle and the driver, identified as Benjamin Black Ireland, 44. During the investigation, officers determined that Ireland was exhibiting signs of alcohol intoxication.
Ireland was transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .15 percent or more — a charge that carries enhanced penalties under Indiana law. Bond was set at $1,500.
Readers are reminded that a criminal charge supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed. Ireland is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
