The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) announced last week that Lena Jones has been awarded the prestigious 2025 IHSAA/C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship. Lena is one of 12 exceptional student-athletes chosen for this 2024-25 academic year honor.
Jones exemplifies the values that the Cato Memorial Scholarship stands for: academic excellence, athletic achievement, community involvement, strong character, sportsmanship, and leadership. As a dedicated student-athlete, Lena has balanced rigorous academics with an outstanding sports career, making a lasting impact on her school and community. She is a three-sport athlete, and as a senior, she participates in cross country, basketball, and track. Lena has also been a positive role model for her peers, balancing leadership roles in school clubs and volunteer initiatives while maintaining a strong academic record. Lena has also been recognized for her sportsmanship and dedication, earning accolades throughout her high school career. Director of Athletics Josh Troyer stated, “Could not be more proud of Lena Jones and how she represents PHS Athletics. This award is a huge honor, and we are excited to celebrate this accomplishment with Lena.”
The Cato Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to twelve senior student-athletes from IHSAA member schools across Indiana. The scholarship, valued at $2,500, recognizes the holistic achievements of these individuals, rewarding them for their commitment to excellence both in and outside of the classroom. Jones will be formally recognized at the IHSAA Foundation Impact Awards ceremony at the Indianapolis Colts’ Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center on April 17. During this event, the scholarship recipients will join other outstanding athletes and community leaders in celebration of their achievements.
