The Plymouth Fire Department is growing.
During Monday’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Gorski administered the Oath of Office to four new full-time firefighters.
Fire Chief Steve Holm introduced the new firefighters. Stephen Williams comes to the Plymouth department after serving with the Chesterton Fire Department for 16 years. Maclain Middaugh has two years of experience as a full-time firefighter with the Osolo Fire Department. Mike Jimenez has been a volunteer with the Plymouth Fire Department for 10 years, and Cole McKibbin comes to Plymouth from the Cleveland Township Fire Department in northwest Elkhart County. He served there for four years full-time.
Following the oath, firefighters participated in the pinning ceremony. This is a tradition in the fire service where new firefighters have their badges officially pinned onto their uniform by a family member, friend, or mentor. It's a significant event that marks the culmination of their training and the beginning of their service.
Chief Holm said this now makes the department a six-person shift between fire and EMS.
