Members of the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously upheld a $200-per-day fine against a local salvage business Tuesday evening, after the property owners failed to comply with a long-standing cleanup order and did not appear at the meeting to appeal the decision.
The case involves Lonnie and Bryan Stutler, owners of the salvage business located at 7469 North Michigan Road, across from Woodbury Golf Course. The brothers had been asked to clear debris in front of the fence on the property for nearly a year.
On May 18th, Plymouth Plan Director Ty Adley and Building Commissioner Dennis Manuwal met with the Stutler brothers to discuss the ongoing property violation and review progress made since an April 8th site visit. While some progress had been made, the cleanup was not complete as required.
The brothers were granted an extension until July 1st, 2026, to clear the area in front of the fence fully. They were informed that failure to complete the cleanup would result in the next step in the violation process under the Zoning Ordinance — a $200 daily fine.
An inspection conducted on July 2nd determined the property was still not in compliance. The Stutler brothers had filed an administrative appeal of the Building Commissioner's decision but did not attend Tuesday evening's meeting to present their case.
With no explanation offered from the property owners, the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals voted unanimously to uphold the Building Commissioner's decision to enact the $200-per-day fine.
