The Plymouth High School Speech Team won the NSDA Northeast Indiana District Speech Tournament Saturday at Concord High School. These students will represent Plymouth at the NSDA National Tournament this June in Des Moines, Iowa. This national tournament will be the 100th anniversary of NSDA.
Qualifiers were the following students:
Dariel Herrera and Claire Lewandowski in Duo
Waylon Pitts and Rylan James in Duo
Angel Oviedo in Drama
Madelyn Hutchings and Olivia Burch in Humor
Estela Mendez and Lyli Seidelman in POI
Alex Kizer and Cora Hanes in Informative
Tyler Travis, Katie Fritz, Maddie Harness, Marley Stoneburner, and Marcy Sickmiller in Congressional Debate.
Tyler Travis, Maddie Harness, Marcy Sickmiller, and Katie Fritz also qualified in speech events but chose to go to nationals in Congress. Madelyn Hutchings and Dariel Herrera qualified in humor and drama, respectively, but chose to go to nationals in another event.
Senior Dariel Herrera was chosen by the district council to be the District Student of the Year. He will now compete for the National Student of the Year award.
PHS will host the ISSDA Sectional Tournament on Saturday. Sectional finalists will qualify for the ISSDA State Tournament on March 8th.
