On August 5, shortly after 6:50 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of State Road 19 and County Road 150 East in Miami County for a report of a vehicle in a field.
The preliminary investigation by the Trooper Andrew Baldwin revealed that Blake M. Walsh, 23, of Peru, was driving a 2013 Dodge Charger heading southbound on State Road 19 near County Road 150 East. For an undetermined reason, the Dodge traveled off the roadway and came to a rest in a field. Further investigation revealed Mr. Walsh had suffered from at least one apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mr. Walsh was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Miami County Coroner's Office.
This is an ongoing investigation. Notification to the family of the deceased has been made.
Trooper Baldwin was assisted on scene by other members of the Indiana State Police Peru Post, the Miami County Sheriff's Office, and the Miami County Coroner's Office.
