A recent traffic stop in Parke County resulted in deputies not only finding out the true identity of the person behind the wheel, but also got meth off the streets.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Deputy Chris Fisher conducted a traffic stop for no turn signals, main brake lights out and 2024 plates on a vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, Fisher noted the driver appeared nervous and gave him the name and birthdate of another individual, while also stating they were from Illinois. The information did not return to anyone. The suspect, later identified as Tomisu Salen Belli, 35, of Terre Haute, then produced another name and told Fisher she was worried about warrants.
“This went on for a long time with several different lies that were told. I told her I was going to end up arresting her for false informing and having her printed to find out who she was. She still wouldn’t give me accurate information,” Fisher wrote in his report.
Fisher called for another unit to assist, and, according to the probable cause affidavit, Belli continued to lie about who she was. It wasn’t until she was placed into custody that she revealed her real name and birthdate and told officers she was wanted on warrants. Officers confirmed she had outstanding warrants in both Vigo and Vermillion counties.
While searching the vehicle, Fisher found a purse that contained a glass pipe with white residue and a lighter. The residue later tested positive for meth. He also located a pill container that had a plastic bag inside it with a white powder, which also tested positive for meth.
Belli had two juveniles with her, which were turned over to the Department of Child Services. Belli was arrested and booked on the following charges: two counts of neglect of a dependent, possession of paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
