One person was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after an I-74 crash in Shelby County.
Just before 8:30 a.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Fire, Waldron Volunteer Fire and Indiana State Police responded to the crash site on the eastbound side of I-74 near the 118 mile marker.
Two vehicles were involved including a 2015 Freightliner driven by a 26-year old man from Missouri. The other, a 2016 GMC full size van was driven by a man, age 58, of Indianapolis.
The van’s driver was trapped inside of his vehicle and was extricated by the Shelbyville Fire Department. He was then transported by Shelbyville Medics to IU – Methodist in Indianapolis. Meanwhile, the driver of the box truck was assessed at the scene and refused further treatment.
According to the preliminary investigation, the van rear-ended the box truck.
The interstate was closed for just over two hours. Davis Towing and Recovery and Ross Wrecker Service assisted in the clean-up.
