The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is taking nominations for the 32nd annual Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence.
These awards are given out to celebrate innovative projects that have had measurable environmental benefits in the Hoosier state and are known as one of the most prestigious environmental awards in Indiana. The awards will be given out based on seven categories and must include efforts done from 2023 or 2024.
• Energy Efficiency/Renewable Resources
• Environmental Education/Outreach
• Five-Year Continuous Improvement
• Greening the Government
• Land Use/Conservation
• Pollution Prevention
• Recycling/Reuse
The Greening the Government Award is specifically designed to recognize a community or government agency that are making strides towards greener and more sustainable operations. This category had its criteria recently updated to include a wider range of projects for more eligibility to recognize more successful programs on the state, county, and local levels.
Businesses, organizations, government offices, and individuals are all up for nomination and all are encouraged to submit nominations on behalf of someone or themselves. The deadline for nominations is March 7, and awards will be presented sometime in September. A panel of conservation, environmental, and academic professionals will review all nominations and grant awards based on project innovation, measurable results, and transferability.
