A motorcycle rider was killed in a Fountain County crash while fleeing law enforcement.
Just before 3:45 p.m., an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling southbound on U.S. 41 near County Road 650 North. He observed a northbound motorcycle and obtained a radar reading of over 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. The trooper made a U-turn in an attempt to stop the motorcycle but lost sight of it as he began searching the area.
The trooper notified nearby law enforcement agencies, which also started searching for the motorcycle. As two Attica Police officers were traveling southbound on U.S. 41 while leaving Attica, the motorcycle passed the first officer, then sideswiped the second officer’s patrol vehicle. The motorcycle continued into town, eventually turning west onto Main Street. It then failed to stop at the intersection of Main Street and Perry Street, where it struck a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling southbound on Perry Street.
The driver of the Silverado was transported to a local hospital and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, the rider was later pronounced deceased. The rider’s name will be released by the Fountain County Coroner.
Trooper Millburg was assisted at the scene by troopers from the Lafayette Post, the Attica Police Department, Williamsport Police Department, Fountain County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Fountain County Coroner’s Office, Attica Fire Department, and Fountain County EMS.
