A 21-year-old man from Mishawaka was arrested Friday night after crashing at Argos Community School and fleeing from police.
Just after 8 P.M., October 18th, the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center received a 911 call for a speeding driver near Argos Community School. The caller said a white Ford SUV crashed into something at the school and took off at a high rate of speed. The caller then told the dispatcher the vehicle was speeding through town.
Marshall County Deputies located the vehicle on Michigan Road near the 19,000 block. It was traveling over 100 MPH. When county deputies attempted to stop the vehicle the driver increased his speed in an attempt to flee. The driver finally stopped south of State Road 110 on Michigan Road. The driver was identified as Evan Michael Trippel of Mishawaka.
Trippel was found to be intoxicated and had a certified Blood Alcohol Content of .259. He was booked into Marshall County Jail for Criminal Charges of Operating While Intoxicated – Endangerment as an A misdemeanor, Leaving the scene of an accident as a B misdemeanor, a level 6 felony Resisting Law Enforcement, and a C misdemeanor of Reckless Driving. He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
