A Michigan man was arrested following a pursuit involving a stolen pickup truck that traveled through Miami, Fulton, and Marshall counties.
On 9/10/2026, an Indiana State Police trooper assigned to the Peru Post heard a dispatch concerning a stolen black 2015 Dodge pickup truck. While patrolling in Miami County, Trooper Rine located a vehicle matching the description traveling on U.S. 24 near Logansport Road at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Trooper Rine attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop and fled eastbound on U.S. 24. The driver then traveled northbound on U.S. 31, continuing through Fulton County and into Marshall County.
During the pursuit, the driver entered the median to avoid a tire-deflation device and began traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31. The driver later crossed the median again and continued north before exiting onto westbound U.S. 30 toward Plymouth.
The pursuit eventually continued southbound on State Road 17, where the pickup struck a tire-deflation device. Despite having a deflated tire, the driver continued fleeing and drove on the wheel’s rim.
At approximately 2:34 p.m., the pickup left the roadway and crashed into trees near 12th Road and Sage Trail in Marshall County. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and identified as Shane Morton, 33, of Holland, Michigan.
Morton was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. After receiving medical clearance, he was transported to the Miami County Jail.
Morton was arrested for:
- Resisting law enforcement
- Theft
- Reckless driving
The Indiana State Police Bremen Post and Peru Post investigated this incident. Multiple agencies assisted as the pursuit traveled through their jurisdictions.
