It is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The Indiana State Police joins law enforcement agencies across the nation in honoring the brave law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This day serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of law enforcement who dedicated their lives to protecting others.
Today, we especially remember the Indiana State Police law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the citizens of our state. We also honor fallen law enforcement officers across the country whose courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.
As we reflect on their legacy, we keep their families, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts and prayers.
Please join us in remembering and honoring all who gave their lives in the line of duty.
