Marshall County's America 250 will host the finale of its three-part historical film series on Friday, September 25th, featuring The Crossing, a dramatization of one of the American Revolution's most daring and decisive moments.
The 2000 television film, starring Jeff Daniels as General George Washington, brings to life the perilous Christmas night in 1776, when Washington led his weary, undersupplied Continental Army across the icy Delaware River to launch a surprise attack on Hessian forces garrisoned at Trenton, New Jersey. Facing overwhelming odds, dwindling morale, and the pressure of a fragile revolution, Washington's courageous decision changed the course of the war and secured his first major military victory.
Less than six months after signing the Declaration of Independence, the Continental Army stood on the brink of defeat—low on men, cannon, and supplies. Washington decided to risk everything on one last desperate attack on Trenton, where more than 1,000 feared Hessian mercenaries were stationed.
Historians widely consider The Crossing one of the most accurate film depictions of George Washington and the American Revolutionary War, earning roughly a 7 out of 10 for overall historical authenticity. With gripping performances and a focus on leadership, resilience, and sacrifice, the film offers a compelling look at one of the most iconic moments in American history.
The event is made possible by the support of a generous anonymous sponsor, whose commitment to bringing entertainment to the community has helped make the screening free for all attendees.
A free-will offering is available for those who wish to contribute. The film lasts 1 hour and 29 minutes.
Don't miss this chance to witness the courage that helped shape a nation.
