Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel has released the department's comprehensive monthly report for March 2026, detailing jail intakes, patrol activities, and dispatch statistics. The data highlights a busy month for local law enforcement, with traffic offenses and court compliance issues driving the majority of arrests.
A total of 152 bookings were recorded at the Marshall County Jail in March. Deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department made 68 of those arrests, closely followed by the Plymouth Police Department with 63. Other agencies contributing to the total included Bremen Police (9), Argos Police (5), Community Corrections (3), Indiana State Police (2), Bourbon Police (1), and Culver Police (1).
Tied for the number one spot on the list of the top ten offenses upon intake were Driving While Suspended and Failure to Appear, each accounting for 24 bookings. Closely following in third place was Operator Never Licensed with 23 intakes, while Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) ranked fourth with 20 arrests.
Drug and domestic offenses made up the middle of the list. Possession of Marijuana resulted in 11 intakes, placing it fifth, followed by Domestic Battery, which accounted for 10 bookings. Rounding out the top ten were Out of County Holds (8), Resisting Law Enforcement (7), Theft (6), and Probation Violations (5).
On the March Jail Count Day, conducted on April 1st, the facility housed a total of 116 inmates, consisting of 93 males and 23 females. The majority of the population—83 inmates—were held pre-trial. Additionally, 22 inmates were serving sentences for felony charges, nine were awaiting arraignment, and two were being held for another agency.
The report noted that the average daily population in February 2026 was 121. This shows a decrease from six months prior in August 2025, when the average was 138, and is also down from the March 2025 average of 129.
On the roads, County Police Officers investigated 69 accidents in March. The vast majority, 62, were property damage crashes, while seven involved personal injuries.
Throughout the month, county officers initiated 54 case reports, issued 63 citations and warnings, and conducted 35 security checks. In total, the Sheriff’s Department responded to 987 calls for service.
The Marshall County Central Dispatch Center also handled a massive volume of communications, answering 5,234 total calls last month. Of those, 1,268 were 911 emergencies, with dispatchers answering an impressive 99.2% of them in 10 seconds or less.
