Motorists should expect road work activity on several Marshall County roads in the coming weeks, as two major highway improvement projects are now underway.
During Monday's County Commissioner meeting, Highway Superintendent Jason Peters announced that the contractor hired to complete paint striping work scheduled operations to begin today. The project covers an estimated 47 miles of multi-component pavement markings, including centerline and fog lines on the shoulders. The work will take place on Michigan Road, Lincoln Highway, Pioneer Drive, and Fir Road.
The striping contract totals $295,152.15, with the county's share coming in at $36,000. Peters noted that while work is scheduled to begin today, the project is weather-dependent and is expected to be completed by next week, barring weather issues.
Simultaneously, the county's Community Crossing mill and fill paving projects, being carried out by E&B Paving, are also getting underway. Work is scheduled to begin today on 12B Road from the Bourbon town limits to U.S. 30. On Friday, E&B is scheduled to shift to Muckshaw Road from State Road 10 to 18B Road.
The paving work will continue into next week, with E&B expected to begin on 14B Road between State Road 17 and the west county line on Wednesday, May 13th or Thursday, May 14th. The crew will then move on to 15th Road from the railroad to the west county line.
Peters told the commissioners that, weather permitting, both the paint striping and Community Crossing paving projects should be fully completed by the end of the third week of May.
