The national Housing and Urban Development (HUD) count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness, known as the Point In Time (PIT) Count, is underway today across the nation and here in Marshall County.
Annually, on a single night in January, housing insecurity data is collected to help state and local decision makers understand the current housing needs and what progress is being made. It also aids Marshall County community leaders in seeking resources needed to address housing insecurities and help some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
In addition to the HUD survey, United Way of Marshall County is also conducting a county-wide informal housing survey. This information includes gathering the number of families and individuals who have relied on the township trustee, churches, or charities with housing or housing-related expenses; individuals facing eviction; individuals living in vehicles, couch surfing, or other places not meant for habitation.
The surveys only take a few minutes, and in return, participants will receive a goodie bag of products. If you don’t feel safe in your current residence, if you are in fear of eviction, if you are homeless, or couch surfing, please consider stopping at one of the Marshall County locations and completing the survey today.
