The Marshall County Neighborhood Center announced Tuesday that it purchased the property next door at 412 West Garro Street in Plymouth, with plans to transform the site into a community garden and gathering space called "Neighborhood Oasis" — a living oasis designed to nurture both people and place.
MCNC Executive Director Christine Garner announced the purchase on August 25. "Neighborhood Oasis" reflects two goals: it honors the organization's eight-year partnership with Oasis Lifestyle and expresses the hope that the garden will become a restorative oasis in the heart of the neighborhood where community happens.
"I have always believed in the beauty of collaboration, and this project is a perfect example," said Garner. "I look forward to seeing this garden truly becoming a hub of the neighborhood, where everyone can engage and build community that keeps the heart beating. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in making this happen."
Program Director Racheal Filley shared the team's enthusiasm for the project. "To say I am excited about this would be an understatement," she said. "This has been a hope and dream for so many years. The possibilities are truly endless in this space. Stepping outside of our walls into a new season of community propels me. Reaching our neighbors in brand new ways and providing a space for education, nutrition, and growth will advance our mission. We are so incredibly thankful for the ways this community sees and supports our efforts. This is the start of a new era for The Marshall County Neighborhood Center, and we are all in!"
The Neighborhood Oasis is planned as a welcoming environment for residents of all ages, providing a peaceful destination that brings beauty to the neighborhood. Through thoughtful landscaping and educational garden programming, the space will offer opportunities for wellness-focused activities that foster community connection and shared stewardship.
While specific timelines for opening will be announced in early spring of 2027, the Neighborhood Center is currently moving forward with planning and early development steps. MCNC welcomes volunteers and looks forward to sharing updates throughout the process.
