The Health Department will be closed from June 9-13 to move into its new building at 990 Illinois Street in Plymouth. All services will be unavailable during that week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the office at 574-935-8565.
This move will require repairs and improvements to the new location, the former Bowen Center building on the city’s east side. During Monday’s County Commissioner meeting, they approved the expenditure of $3,989 to National Asphalt to have the parking lot sealed and striped. They also approved spending about $8,000 with Hyperwave Consulting to provide the missing internet equipment, repair outlets, wire the facility, and set up the internet to work with the county’s system. BJ Smith from Hyperwave told the commissioners Surf provides fiber in the area and will install it for free with a monthly payment of $165 for one gig of service. The commissioners approved the agreements with Hyperwave and Surf.
Four quotes for a new heating and air conditioning system for the new Health Department Building were discussed, and the Commissioners awarded the project to Bowman’s Tin Shop for $108,990.29. Materials will be ordered immediately, but the work won't be complete by the move-in date of June 16. The new HVAC system moves from a boiler to a forced air system with redundancy. Bowman will phase in the work to accommodate workers and the public and will rent a couple of stand-up commercial AC units to keep everyone comfortable as the weather warms up.
The Commissioners also approved up to $1,900 for removing old signage and installing new signage, working with Bowen Printing.
