A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision Monday morning in Hancock County.
The two-vehicle crash occurred about 8 a.m. on US 40 at the intersection of CR 800E. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was called to the intersection to handle the investigation.
The crash involved a 2011 Ford Edge and a 1996 Peterbilt dump truck. The Ford Edge was being driven by Matthew Fisher, 48, of Markleville. Fisher was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Peterbilt was driven by Kenneth Stautamoyer, 48, of Daleville.
The Peterbilt and the Ford were both eastbound on US 40, approaching the crossover intersection at County Road 800E. Both vehicles were in the left lane of eastbound US 40, with the Peterbilt the lead vehicle. The Peterbilt was preparing to turn north and was struck in the rear by the Ford Edge. The impact resulted in the Peterbilt overturning onto its passenger side in the crossover and partially in the westbound lanes of US 40. The Ford sustained heavy front-end damage from impact. Witness information indicated the Peterbilt did have a turn signal operating.
Hancock County FACT members are investigating the incident. The driver of the Peterbilt is being cooperative in the investigation. This crash occurred in the early hours,with eastbound vehicle traffic heading into the sunrise. According to witnesses, the sunrise was very bright, indicating that visibility may have played a role in the collision.
Members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Greenfield Police Department FACT, were on the scene, as well as Indiana State Police, Charlottesville Fire Department, and Greenfield Fire Department.
