Marian University Ancilla College celebrated the remarkable legacy of Michael Leep Sr., founder of the Gurley Leep Automotive Group, as the 2025 Ancilla Domini Legacy of Service Honoree during its annual "Changing Lives Scholarship Dinner" on Oct. 2.
Leep was recognized before a record-setting audience of more than 350 guests for his enduring commitment to community, service, and education. During the evening, Marian University President Daniel J. Elsener also announced a historic milestone, $500,000 in new scholarship contributions to support students pursuing their dreams at Ancilla College.
Leep began his career as a salesman at McAnary Ford in Gary, before co-founding Gurley Leep Automotive Group in 1973 with his business partner, Van Gurley. Today, the company has expanded to 36 retail franchises, operating at 22 dealerships across the Midwest, and employs more than 1,300 people.
Through the Leep Automotive Family Foundation, Leep and his family have been strong partners with Marian University Ancilla College, playing a key role in helping launch the college’s new four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
