Greenwood Police have a suspect in custody connected to a series of apartment building fires Thursday.
Greenwood Fire responded to 890 Parliament Place, Westminster Apartments, on a report of a fire in the apartment building. While fighting that fire another call came in at 8:25 a.m. reporting a fire in the apartment building at 923 Kings Mill Rd, the Polo Run Apartments, which is just blocks south of the fire in Westminster Apartments.
While responding to the second fire a third call came in just after 8:30 a.m. of a fire in the apartment building at 780 Woodale Terrace, Auburn Place Apartments, which is just a couple of blocks south of the fire in Polo Run Apartments.
From the onset of the initial report it was apparent to investigators that these fires were intentionally started and that the same person likely set all three fires. The three fires were all set in publicly accessible spots in the buildings.
As the investigation ensued a suspect was quickly developed by video cameras in the area. Just before noon, a person matching the exact description of the suspect was located sitting in the Greenwood Public Library. The suspect was then taken into custody and later arrested. The suspect was identified as Ronnie B. Brasher, 50, with a last known address in Carmel. Greenwood Police say it is believed Brasher is homeless at this time.
Brasher was initially arrested on three counts of Level 4 arson.
Assisting with this investigation are a number of agencies including Greenwood Fire Dept., Indianapolis Metro Police Dept., ATF, State Fire Marshal, White River, Bargersville, Franklin, Indianapolis, Whiteland, New Whiteland and Needham Fire Departments.
This case is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Greenwood Police Department.
