Logansport Memorial Hospital will officially be joining Parkview Health, with hopes of transitioning by this summer.
The announcement comes after a public hearing at the Cass County Fairgrounds on Monday where the Logansport Memorial Hospital Board, Cass County Commissioners and Cass County Council voted unanimously in favor of a transfer agreement between LMH and Parkview. Officials say they hope to have the hospital transitioned to Parkview Logansport Hospital by June 30.
Logansport Memorial Hospital is currently an 83-bed, ACHC accredited, regional medical center that provides a wide range of healthcare services to residents in Cass County and surrounding areas. The transition of the hospital will add to Parkview Health's 14 other hospitals and extensive network of primary care and specialty care physicians.
“As our community knows, we have worked very hard to remain independent. While we have seen financial improvements, we’re still not where we’d like to be,” said Tara McVay, president and CEO at Logansport Memorial.
During Monday's public hearing, McVay revealed that in 2024 LMH lost on average, around $9,000 a day, adding that the loss had improved from the prior two years but was still too much. The hospital's financial difficulties have meant they have not been able to upgrade equipment over the past few years.
“We have chosen Parkview Health to help us stabilize and grow our hospital and services. We are incredibly proud and grateful to have served our community for 100 years, and we are equally excited about the next 100 years,” McVay stated.
Parkview has committed to several capital projects through 2030 that include facility upgrades and new technology. As part of the agreement, they also committed to maintaining employment for the current employees at Logansport Memorial. Employees will still be subject to routine background checks and standard onboarding practices.
McVay said for the next two-and-a-half months they will evaluate the hospital alongside Parkview to execute a smooth transition, which is expected to take anywhere from 12 to 24 months to complete.
“In addition to our shared passion for high-quality care, Logansport Memorial and Parkview share a commitment to investing time, talent and resources in the communities we serve. We are eager to honor the history of Logansport Memorial and continue to build on its success,” Dr. Ray Dusman, president of physician and clinical enterprise said in a press release Tuesday.
