Two firefighters were injured and two homes were damaged after a house fire in Logansport on Christmas Day.
According to a press release from the Logansport Fire Department, officials were dispatched to 2227 High St in Logansport just after 2 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 25, for the report of a house that was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters who arrived on scene began attacking the fire from the exterior while also applying water to the exterior of the residence located nextdoor at 2231 High St., to prevent further damage from radiant heat. Crew members soon moved to the interior area of the home to attack the fire on the first and second floor and the attic. Family members reported that all occupants had escaped the blaze and exited the residence and firefighters soon confirmed that with a primary search in the home.
Smoldering fire was also discovered in the second floor of 2231 High Street. Additional manpower and an All Call was made to recruit all available off duty LFD members for the fire. It took around an hour for the inferno to be brought completely under control. Two Logansport Fire Department firefighters were transported to Parkview Logansport Hospital after sustaining injuries from the blaze. The firefighters were treated and released soon after.
The Logansport Fire Department was assisted on scene by Cass County Fire District 1, Cass County EMS, Logansport Building Commissioner, Logansport Utilities, NIPSCO and the Logansport Police Department.
The cause of the Christmas Day fire is still under investigation.
Clothing donations are being accepted for the family who lost their home in the fire and can be dropped off at the Logansport Fire Department’s Central Fire, 630 High St. Clothing needed are for mens size X-large, 38/30 pants and size 11 shoes; women’s clothing size large, 8/10 pants and size 9 shoe; and junior female clothing size 8/10 pants and size 9 shoe.
