That plan would create sidewalks that would link up various areas in northwest Lawrenceville.
The city of Lawrenceville is moving forward with a multi-million dollar sidewalk improvement project.
The Lawrenceville City Council Thursday night approved a letter of support for obtaining a $3 million dollar grant from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program as part of the financing of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Streetscape plan. That plan would create sidewalks that would link up various areas in northwest Lawrenceville such as the hospital, health department, Walmart and the James Street business corridor for pedestrian and bicycling use.
Mayor David Courtney told Giant fm News that he is optimistic that the city will receive the money.
Also during its session, the council was informed by Police Chief Jim White that his department has received its body cameras. Those will be paid for through video-gaming receipts by the city. Next up is training on the implementation and use of the cameras by officers.
Illinois state law requires that all police department have the body camera systems in use as of January 1 of 2025.
