The Lawrenceville City Council is moving forward to obtain the financing mechanism through a loan from the EPA for construction of a planned new $10 million wastewater treatment plant. Thursday night Mayor David Courtney also indicated that a potential site for the plant has been selected-the former LHS school site at 503 8th Street. The city has filed suit in court for the declaration of the building as abandoned and is looking for the owner or owners to remediate that structure, which was gutted by fire in 2017. The mayor is hoping that the legal process will eventually lead to the building of the new plant at that location by the end of 2029. The council also approved an agreement with HLR Engineering for the design work on a 16th Street waterline replacement project and will seek grant funding through the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission (GWRPC)> They also went into executive session for around 20 minutes and emerged to approve a new 4 year contract with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Also approved was the expenditure of $35,000 for a bid submitted to the Lawrenceville Police Department for required body camera systems for it's officers. Those will be required by law starting in 2025.
