An organization being created to assist local veterans and their families in Lawrence County is working toward fiscal stability in its initial stages.
The Lawrence County Veterans Commission met with the Lawrence County Board Finance Committee on Thursday, September 3rd to discuss a proposed budget of around $80,000 for fiscal year 2026-27 to get started. That budget is not set in stone and could undergo some adjustments and changes in the future.
It is hoped that the job description for the Superintendent who will provide leadership and assistance to those in need will be finalized and the position will be advertised and a hiring made in late 2027 or early in 2028.
There will be a concerted effort made in the coming days and weeks to fully explain exactly what the Commission is and what it will offer to the general public and educate them on the benefits.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 7th at 6 p.m. at the Lawrenceville VFW #2244 Post at 511 North 12th Street in Lawrenceville. the sessions are open to the public.
