The fire chiefs of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District, Bridgeport Fire Protection District, Christy Fire Protection District and the Denison Fire Protection District in Lawrence County (ILL.) announced that they are temporarily ending the burn ban issued last week.
The ban was imposed by order of the chiefs because of a number of field and agricultural fires caused by extremely dry conditions that in combination with a lack of substantial rainfall led to a high fire risk.
The recent rainfall has lessened the fire risk, but the chiefs say the ban will most likely be re-issued in the coming days with additional dry, hot weather anticipated in the forecasts.
Lawrence County residents are asked to continue to use caution when burning outdoors and always check and monitor current conditions before burning and discard lit cigarettes responsibly.
