A traffic stop for a trailer lighting violation Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of a LaPorte man on a habitual traffic violator charge.
Plymouth Police Department Patrolman Thornton initiated a traffic stop at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at Hoham Drive and Oak Drive after observing a vehicle pulling a trailer without functioning lights.
During the stop, the officer identified the driver as Jeremy J. Lowe, 46, of LaPorte. Further investigation revealed that Lowe had been designated as a Habitual Traffic Violator (HTV), meaning he was not legally permitted to operate a motor vehicle.
Indiana law designates individuals as Habitual Traffic Violators when they accumulate multiple serious traffic violations or suspensions within a specified period. Operating a vehicle with an HTV designation is a criminal offense that can result in felony charges.
Lowe was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of driving as a Habitual Traffic Violator.
The Plymouth Police Department reminds motorists to ensure all vehicle equipment, including trailer lights, are in proper working order before operating on public roadways.
