The guest speaker at the services on Memorial Day at the Shelby County Courthouse steps Monday has been announced.
1st Lt. Zachary Laird is the Alpha Flight Commander, 113th Air Support Operations Squadron, Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He leads a flight of Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Operators through field training events, exercises and combat missions. He also is the Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Standardization and Evaluations
Program Manager and Resource Advisor.
Lt. Laird entered the Air Force in September 2003 and completed the TACP pipeline in March of 2004 after completing basic training. Since then, has held a number of positions throughout his over 20 year career to include JTAC Instructor and Evaluator, Flight Chief, Operations Training Manager, JTAC Program Manager, and JTAC Qualification Course Manager. Lt Laird later commissioned in July 2020 through the Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He has planned and executed five combat operations in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
Prior to assuming his current position, 1st Lt. Laird served as the Operations Superintendent at the 113th Air Support Operations Squadron.
